A sensational field of 21,121 women and girls from 71 nations participated in this year's Austrian dm Women's Run.

Radiant winner of the largest women's run in continental Europe is Irina Miktenko from Germany- the "exceptional runner" won the 5 k elite runners competition in 15:38.4 min.

Mikitenko, who actually specializes in marathon (she ran the world's fourth-fastest marathon time) was inspired by the great atmosphere along the route: "The audience has carried me fantastically, so many men and children were cheering, it is simply a dream-event ".
After 2006, Eloise Wellings participated again in the Vienna event and finished also this year's run in second place. The 27-year-old Australian (15:48.4 min) reached the finish line 10 seconds after Mikitenko: "When I participated for the first time, there were 12,000 runners, and I thought even then that would be a lot - but now there are over 21,000! This is totally awesome! I definitely have to come back to win the race once! "

Third place went to last year's winner Jelena Prokopcuka (LAT, time: 15:59.6 min). Although the 33-year-old, who already won twice the New York City Marathon, could not defend her title from last year, she remains the course record holder over 5 k in Vienna (15:29.4). The very likeable athlete is also planning to come back to Vienna, because she loves "Vienna, this course and this great atmosphere." As best Austrian runner, talented newcomer Jennifer Wenthe (16:34.7) finished in excellent 4th place.

Of the 21,121 participants, 14,795 women participated in the 5 k run, 3,827 the 10 k run, and 2,499 in 5 k Nordic Walking.

In the field of runners - Women's Run pioneer and global Women's Run ambassador Katharine Switzer! Participating already in 2005 with number 10,000 at the Austrian Women's Run in Vienna, in 2010 - only five years later - the number of participants more than doubled (!) and it was an honor for Kathrine Switzer to run this time with number 20,000: "The event made history, and will continue to do so. 21.000 .... astonishing! ... The women's running movement is a revolution now, a big social and cultural change in our lives ".... it's about changing women's lives "has become a motto for all of us."
